This is unfortunate. People gave up democracy in order to get worse inflation and a recession.
expectations component saw the sharpest drop,” the Conference Board’s chief economist, Dana M. Peterson, said in the press release, adding: “Compared to last month, consumers in December were substantially less optimistic about future business conditions and incomes.”
Expectations Index — which measures consumers’ short-term outlook on income, business, and the labor market — falling 12.6 points to a five-month low of 81.1, the organization said.
That’s close to the threshold of 80, which typically signals a recession, the Conference Board said in a press release.
The survey’s write-in responses suggest that concerns about politics, including the November election results, and tariffs are fueling consumers’ concerns, the press release said.
For a special question on this month’s survey, 46% of consumers said they expected tariffs to raise the cost of living, consistent with a University of Michigan poll

Reality is setting in. Nobody in the Pro-democracy wants a recession or to increase inflation, but this is the result of putting the across the board tariffs and mass deportations guy in power. He isn’t thinking about anybody but himself. The only thing we can hope is what the smarter Trumpers tried to argue, that Trump was just using across the board tariffs to scare or intimidate other nations to get something, but doesn’t actually intend to go through with it. But if he doesn’t go through with it, he’s admitting he has no actual policies for the economy other than cut taxes for the wealthy. The signs “Trump will fix it” were absurd when the problem is inflation and Trump offers across the board tariffs and mass deportations which will worsen inflation.
Our job is to communicate to voters that Trump is focused on retribution and bigotry and not at all focused on improving their situation with the economy and as a result Trump made inflation worse and brought a recession.
Communication is key. We must dramatically increase, expand, our presence on social media and our media outreach to voters. This is Ben Wikler’s strength and why I support him for DNC chair.
